... sir can you help me.... Those lines are well known for many, as they are from a song from Phil Collins song -Another day in paradise-.
Still people are sitting on the street and beg for help, money and a home. The reasons are many and it is not a new sight. Through centuries, we had people falling down and living on the streets.
But I wonder as in the western world many social systems are made in a way that no one should be on the streets anymore. Still they do fall down and are not saved from the system. Is it the fault of the system or them self? I guess it is the system of morality we build up as many people simple don't want help and money from the government or are ashamed if they fail in seeking a new job or learning enough to be able to get one. Some sure waited to long before seeking for help and some fell down and instead of seeking help to stand up, they took alcohol and other drugs. We humans like to run away for sure sometimes and here I think it is also because of the morality we build up as a community.
The paradox is, we learn that we should help each other, but then we make those people second class people or less.
Living in a big town also means seeing people laying on the street because they are drunk or hearing them selling papers and others who play bad music. Most people look away and many of them in disgust. I try to smile at them as I believe it is hard for them to live that way, but that is just an assumption. For most of them it is not a new way of living and they have got used to it somehow.
Which leads me to the question of how can you help and do they want it? Is there a chance of that? They are not used to our way of living anymore. Except maybe the musicians. They look much like they know the way we do. Thought there are those who make truly good music and those who are just making bad music to get money and avoid other jobs and ways of living. In the eye of many people this group is part of a music mafia. And they really are unnerving. They use to play the same two songs (never to the end) and so wrong, you never want to hear those songs again. Sad as it is.
The musicians who clearly play god music- I and most people I see- we have less problem with them. We give easy our money as we respect and like their play.
But there are those others, who come along with the papers made from homeless and their helpers and those who just want money and those who sit on the street- that is a challenge. The paper sellers are mostly those who want to survive and catch up again and they in most way want to reconnect with the system they fell out. But if I buy a paper from them. I am sure helping for the moment but am I also helping the system who let them come down? I suspect- yes. That troubles me sometimes more then I want as I feel empathy with those people but also know, they have to go the path they have chosen.
Yes, it simple is a sad sight but all I can do is keep an eye on them, so no one is beating them and in winter to give them the possibility to get help from the organization who can give them food and a warm room.
Otherwise it is talking about the problem and telling people that there is help they can get. If we are lucky, they will listen. But not all are able to do that. So we have to let them chose their way.
But many people who have a good living choose to overlook and ignore. That is also a sad truth and one of the reason why people struggle. I guess we as a community have to open up our eyes and soul and also to get aware of our moral system.
But just now, after this very thoughtful and not so light post... I wish you a very nice week and lots of Love and light...
