We all have read about it in many ways here and there, now and then... haven't we?
Every year in every country in Europe you can read about journalists who are sitting in prisons. A part has been for years, others just arrested. The biggest part is waiting for a court date, but usually has no chance without the help from outside.
Sometimes the press self speaks/ writes of fighting for the right of the freedom of speech.
In particular, our Western press complains about the abuse of press freedom in other countries. Rightly so?
Yes, it is one of the achievements of democracy, a free press to have and to grant them.
We read about the bad conditions in different countries. We read about how journalists live dangerously on foot, they want to write about certain things.
We all read about how important it is to inform people, to bring the truth to daylight. We read about the importance of diversity for democracy and freedom of its people.
And we see how difficult it is to free journalists. We read but not very often why it is so.
Why does it sometimes take decades to liberate a journalist? Why do we sometimes do not even know where he is caught? Often we do not even know why he was imprisoned. What has he worked with? What was he looking for? What has he found?
The truth is, we know less... We maybe got to know 20-30% of all the things in the world which are goin' on and about the truth or lies of things. How could this be...?
Well, guess one thing is, it's impossible to know everything and to get to know... and of curse the most of us don't want to know everything and then there are those who doesn't want us to know everything, every step...
Those who want us to get stupid, to not to know about using your own mind. People are more easy to handle if they just follow and believe what it is said and never ask about it. A fool is easier to dump, easier to sell and to direct. A fool needs a master, a leader someone to look up without asking. But a clever mind never does have the feel of a need for a master and Co. He will prefer a teacher, a friend, a representative.
So what does it means to the press freedom?
Do we have a press freedom here in Europe?
Nope.
Well, yes we can read a lot and there are a lot news to read and hear from other countries and our own and we get to know this and that but do we get to know the whole truth? Nope.
We just get a part of it and it depends on the theme how much you can get.
Let's take a look at the newspapers. Who is behind them? Who owns it? What is he? Right, left, liberal? This is critical as the newspaper is their opinion and influence the reader. The decision about how a critical journalist may express about certain things. So, that means the most critical texts are rarely out of the country's own.
But there is another problem of our time. We have the Internet. Millions of information and most are not verified or investigated whether its accuracy. We have already seen how supposedly correct information or with other words false information has been circulated as true.
The funny things is, I know false stories that have been declared by the author to be false and yet remain in power continue to be accurate, because they were deemed to be correct, although the cause was confirmed several times that this was wrong and is. Crazy world where wrong gets right.
Secondly, we live in a fast time. The attention span of customers has decreased.
This means everything must be given concisely as appetizers, so that the customer is on the ball. So-called stopper, sometimes even just headlines need to tickle the customer.
Take your time for information from the media? Who does that? Is that still? It works, but very few have managed to create such a customer base.
Who is to blame for that? The media self or just the computers, the Internet?
Well I guess it's both of them. The revolution of the Internet and the private media have lead to a speeding up of all information and of course to get more in shorter time.
But then, there is one more problem...
The journalists have hardly had time to investigate, prepare to question, to inquire.
In addition, the training of journalists is no longer what it once was. Nowadays there are more and more queer entry, which is also often a means of degenerate levels, as well as the conversations are not always correctly reproduced. The content is often unintentionally distorted.
So what happened is, that they get the news in short and then send it to everyone and delete what they think people should not know or they can't sell so well.
Another fact of the power of the press is when they write too much of the same thing... it's not only getting boring after a while, it can get you happy or depressed... especially when it comes to crime.
Much for often do we read about it, hear about it, see about it and you just get the feeling of everyone must be a cruel, a criminal, this world sucks.
And how often did we hear, the press "just" and "only" write or tells about it. The news on TV says only the truth. But fuck off, this is so not true. It's so often black and white and what is right then?
Mixing the facts? But honestly... Only if it's not just mixing, it should be more being about asking and then not so much about showing the blood.
Yesterday I saw Gaddafi and the different of the news... you know there were pics just as he was before he get shoot and some with blood on his face.... Why do we need them to see? Is it we don't trust the press anymore?
Well, two years ago, I saw a documentation about a town in England where the newspaper- the owners ventured an experiment. They wrote a whole year not on page one to three on Crime and showed only photos, if they really considered to be important. That is, they wrote only in small articles on the other side about it.
Guess what!? After one year, the police could find a decrease of 40% of violent crime and riots.
40%!!!!!!
That! IS MUCH! So, if we all are so afraid of crime and we all think we should do something, then why, why, why don't we start here!
Because the funny thing is, all the cameras, all the Supervisory doesn't help at all. Most crimes are prevented by people of courage.
So how do we get back the courage to the press for having a true free press here home at our own place?
I only remember one year with a free press, with freedom of speech without anger, without fear. That was in the year from 1989- '90, the year after the wall was broken and that was a good year after all.
So maybe let's start on our doorstep.
Stand up for a free press on your own place!
LOVE & LIGHT
